Axolotls, ambystoma mexicanum, are originally from the murky, cool lakes of Mexico. Sadly, due to climate change and destruction of their natural habitat, the axolotl population is now considered critically endangered. Our goal at Amy's Axolotls is to lend a helping hand in efforts to increase the population of these adorable water puppies!

Our babies, leucistic axolotls (white with pink gills), are the product of a parent pair of leucys that have been producing clutches of eggs every summer for years. The proud parents, Honnah and Apollo, are five years old and thriving!

The grid below shows the lives of our baby axolotls, from tiny embryos to month old hatchlings. We also have images of what we like to call our “toddlers,” that exemplify what your baby will look like as it ages, to show key developmental factors.

Are you ready to be a proud owner of your own adorable axolotl? Check out our care page for tips on how to set up your own tank, and what it takes to be the best axolotl owner around! Take a glance at our gallery, where you can find pictures of our axolotl family, care equipment and much more! Thank you for joining us in our mission to bring axolotls back!
